DIY Seasalt Spray for Your Perfect Beach Waves

Homemade Texturizer for a Surfer Chic Hair

The surfer chic look has been making waves in the world of beauty, and many girls are dying to have their own beach waves. Lucky for girls who have natural big curls, they can have it effortlessly; but good news for everyone, beach waves can now be achieved by any hair types from short bobs to straight long hair. Though we’ve been hearing a lot of raves about texturizers and dry shampoos, which is far from cheap by the way, you can now do your own seasalt spray.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons epsom salt – This is also known as Magnesium Sulfate. It is very essential to pull off the whole look. You can add more of this if you want more texture, but 2 tablespoons will do.
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt – Sea salt tend to dry the hair more, but it can hold the curls tightly. If you already have wavy hair, you can skip this one. This is ideal if you have silky straight hair so your beach waves could last longer.
  • 1 cup warm water – It doesn’t have to be boiling hot, just warm enough to easily dissolve all the ingredients.
  • 1 teaspoon aloe vera gel – You can buy this at stores who sell organic products but if you have it in your garden, then that’s perfect. This is to keep your hair hydrated and nourished.
  • 1 teaspoon regular hair gel – This is optional. This is if you want lasting curls and if your hair is hard to tame. I’m talking about the gel we use in back in the 90’s.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon – Add this if you only want a lighter hair color. If you’re looking for a more authentic beach babe look, you could use some lighter hair color to complete the under-the-sun look.
  • Essential oil – For your preferred scent, you can use essential oil so you could choose the mood you want. This can vary from summer loving citrus, dainty lavender, exotic green tea, and a whole lot more of options. Just make sure that you stick to one signature scent you want.

Instructions:

Just prepare a bottle that can hold at least a cup of water. On a separate cup or a bowl, you can mix all the ingredients first. Now, let’s go back to the empty bottle and use a funnel to fill it in with the mixture. Cover it then shake the bottle well until all the ingredients dissolve. You can customize the ingredients according to your own preference. Make sure that you base it on your hair type and how you would want the result to be.

How to use it:

To sport the beach waves, after you wash your hair, pat it with dry towel. You can brush your hair before you take a shower because you cannot do it after or else you will lose the natural curls. Don’t dry your hair completely, and spray the seasalt spray while your hair is still damp. Wait for it to naturally dry. Don’t expose it to so much air for more effective result. Style it while it’s still damp according to your own preference then you’re good to go. If you have straight hair, you can braid your hair while it’s still damp for a few minutes.
